QoE validation of a RSVP protocol extension enabling efficient resource reservation for aggregated traffic in heterogeneous IP networks

Abstract: In this paper we propose an extension to RSVP protocol, based on dynamic resource reservations, which allows for better coexistence of HD video transmission and elastic traffic (e.g. bulk data transfer). These extensions have been evaluated in two different domains, both in the Quality of Experience (QoE) domain and in the Quality of Service (QoS) domain. Experiments carried out in an emulated multi-node heterogeneous network show that the proposed extensions are profitable, especially in the network domain. T… Show more

“…The scene complexity analysis resulted in choosing 13 source sequences from standard VQEG content [18] -namely SRC 2, 3,5,7,9,10,13,14,16,18,19,20, and 21 with a potentially uniform distribution of scene complexity o varying from 5.96 (SRC 21, minimum of standard VQEG content) to 8.45 (SRC 10, maximum of standard VQEG content).…”

“…LCD monitor with a native resolution of 1280 Â 1024 pixels (no scaling applied, the rest of the screen was filled with black). The subjects were pre-screened for the following: normal (20/30) visual acuity with or without corrective glasses (self-declaration based on Snellen test chart), normal colour blindness vision (per Ishihara test), contrast sensitivity, familiarity with the Polish language sufficient to comprehend the instruction and to provide valid responses using the semantic judgment terms expressed in that languageas in the experiment reported in [20]. The sequences were then played out in a random order.…”

“…In [86] an extension of RSVP was proposed that allows better coexistence of sensitive video traffic and elastic traffic. Sensitive traffic, which requires very strict QoS guarantees, leads to a non-optimal use of network resources [86].…”

“…In [86] an extension of RSVP was proposed that allows better coexistence of sensitive video traffic and elastic traffic. Sensitive traffic, which requires very strict QoS guarantees, leads to a non-optimal use of network resources [86]. Basically [86] advocated that it can be beneficial to dynamically change the reservations based on the current demand for network resources.…”
