“…This finding might benefit from the fact that psychosomatic therapy has the dual mechanism of exercise and meditation that can relieve KOA pain and mood disorders (29,30). The underlying mechanism that physical exercise, combined with continuous cognitive challenge training, can maintain a new neuron pool experiences, more complex cognitive tasks, and even recruits new neurons to improve brain function (31). A functional magnetic resonance study has shown that the functional connectivity of dorsolateral prefrontal cortex with left hippocampus and amygdala was enhanced in Qigong group.…”

“…Evidence based on the medical Qigong and Tai-chi also shows that cognitive function improvement is related to the Chi-Kung practice, including hand-shaking moments 73 , 74 . PA with low intensity and resistance yielded less health-promoting effects; most elderly individuals were engaged in a more specific PA in parks or schools near their homes, and the intensity of PA was insufficient 75 , 76 . Nutrient supplements with fruits and vegetables are needed to reduce the risk of cognitive decline.…”

“…Mechanistically, IL-6 levels influence neurocognitive functions by exacerbating neuroinflammation, controlling adult neurogenesis, and provoking the deposition of amyloid beta. For instance, a randomized controlled trial included qigong intervention to promote cognitive functions in older people [ 42 ]. The results revealed that the decrease in peripheral IL-6 and its modulating effect on hippocampus volume changes explain the qigong exercise’s positive effect on processing speed.…”
