QCD Phase Transition with Chiral Quarks and Physical Quark Masses

Abstract: We report on the first lattice calculation of the QCD phase transition using chiral fermions at physical values of the quark masses. This calculation uses 2+1 quark flavors, spatial volumes between (4 fm) 3 and (11 fm) 3 and temperatures between 139 and 196 MeV . Each temperature was calculated using a single lattice spacing corresponding to a temporal Euclidean extent of Nt = 8. The disconnected chiral susceptibility, χ disc shows a pronounced peak whose position and height depend sensitively on the quark mas… Show more

“…In refs. [19,20], the temperature dependence of various susceptibilities are measured, which seem to be consistent with the semi-classical instanton picture and but at the same time not to exclude other possibilities. Meanwhile, the analysis in ref.…”

“…Moreover, chiral partners in the scalar-pseudoscalar sector are understood through degeneration of correlators and susceptibilities [26], something which is also directly seen in lattice data [4,5]. The role of the f 0 ð500Þ state for chiral restoration could become more complicated if its possible tetraquark component is also considered at finite temperature [27].…”

“…The n th -order flow coefficients are denoted as v n and can be calculated as 2) where the brackets denote an average over all particles in all events. Since the symmetry planes are not accessible experimentally, the flow coefficients are estimated solely from the azimuthal angles of the produced particles.…”

“…Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) calculations on the lattice [1,2] suggest that at high values of temperature and energy density a transition takes place from ordinary nuclear matter to a state where the constituents, the quarks and the gluons, are deconfined. This state of matter is called the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) [3][4][5].…”
