“…In order to define histological and prognostic criteria for nephroblastoma, pathologists have tried to establish a more detailed differentiation score. Our results confirm the findings in other ultrastructural (Balsaver et al, 1968;Ito and Johnson, 1969;Tremblay, 1971 ;Rousseau andNabarra, 1974), histoenzymatic (Jmbert andNezelof, 1972) and isoenzymatic (Cottreau et al, 1982) studies as well as the results obtained with an indirect immunofluorescence test using xenogeneic Wilms' antiserum (Kumar et al, 1980) which demonstrated the limited differentiation level of nephroblastoma. BGA expression displays the well differentiated tumour structures which are comparable to the degree of maturation of a 14 to 20-weekold fetal kidney.…”

“…Although the rat L-isozyme has a PI value in the pH 5 range, it is unlikely that this form is related to the low PI variant expressed in the undifferentiated astrocyte. Similar low PI variants were observed in previous isoelectrofocusing studies of developing or neoplastic, muscle or brain tissues and immunological criteria suggest that these belong to the K-M isozyme family (Marie et al, 1976;Guguen-Guillouzo et al, 1977;Cottreau et al, 1982). The observed sensitivity of these low PI variants to heat denaturation and to alanine inhibition (see Results) suggests they are functionally related to the Kisozyme.…”

“…This latter conclusion is supported by isoelectrozymograms using pH 6-9 gradients that show that this band can be resolved into three under the proper conditions (data not shown). Such multiple bands between the K4-and M4-bands have also been observed by others (Ibsen et al, 1976, Guguen-Guillouzo et al, 1977Cottreau et al, 1982). Extracts of adult spleen yield a single peak with a PI value of 6.8, suggesting this variant is the K4-isozyme.…”

“…Although this represents only a fraction of the total number of proteins in the nucleus, they constitute a broad spectrum of protein functions residing in the NB nucleus. The nuclear proteins identified associated pathologically with NB include GAPDH [28], pyruvate kinase [29], cofilin [30], nm23 [20], grp94 [23], SOD [24], stathmin [27], a-tropomyosin [31], and MIF [32]. In addition, in searching for potential biomarkers from the NB nucleus, we identified proteins (SET [15], transgelin 2 [16 -18], ubiquitin coenzyme E2A [21], eIF5A [33], EF 1 a-1 [34]) with correlations to other malignancies.…”
