Pyrolyzed cobalt hexacyanocobaltate dispersed on reduced-graphene-oxide as an electrocatalyst of the oxygen reduction reaction in an alkaline medium

Abstract: This article details the development of noble-metal free electrocatalytic materials based on Prussian blue analogue (metal–organic-type framework) immobilized on reduced graphene oxide for oxygen reduction reaction in alkaline medium.

“…Apart from the traditional noble metal materials, earthabundant cobalt-based compounds are progressively becoming the typical O 2 reduction catalysts on account of their good adherence and efficient electron exchange to O 2 . [26][27][28][29] The formation of robust cobalt-sulde bonds could destroy the structures of most cobalt materials, especially those cobalt oxide-based compounds. These structure alterations might discount the O 2 activation capacity and limit the application of some cobalt-based catalysts in the photocatalytic H 2 S oxidation.…”

“…Cobalt exerts its good physicochemical properties in many fields, such as batteries, electrocatalysis, and photocatalysis [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]. And in biology, cobalt is an important micronutrient, and as one of the metal ions necessary for the formation of vitamin B complexes in the body, it is involved in the regulation of various body functions.…”

“…Carbon, due to its valence, exists in various allotropic forms such as carbon black, diamond, fullerenes, graphene, and carbon nanotubes. Carbonaceous compounds are used in various catalytic processes because of their unique features, such as chemical inertness, high surface area and porosity, suitable mechanical properties, and low cost. Natural asphalt is a type of carbonaceous mineral compound that includes 70–80% of carbon, 15% of hydrogen, and a trace amount of nitrogen . Solid natural asphalt with its features such as excellent stability, low cost, high thermal stability, large specific surface area, and high carbon contents is a suitable candidate for the preparation of various nanocatalysts in organic reactions.…”
