Pyrolysis of Copolymers Based on Alkyl Methacrylates with C1-C8 Alkyl Chain

Abstract: The manuscript describes pyrolysis of copolymers based on selected alkyl methacrylates containing C 1 -C 8 alkyl side chain at temperatures between 250 °C and 400 °C which was studied using pyrolysis-gas chromatography. The kind and composition of thermal degradation products gave practical information about the mechanism of pyrolysis of copolymers synthesized by using of typical commercially available alkyl methacrylates. It was observed that the main thermal degradation products from alkyl methacrylate copol… Show more

“…PEMA plays the role of the main component in the polymer precursor due to its appropriate glass transition behavior, adhesion property, and pyrolysis mechanism. 17 Another important processing factor is the pressure-driven flow of polymer upon compressing the precursor coating layer that comprises homogeneously dispersed zeolite nanoparticles in the polymer phase, laid on a porous stainless steel disc (PSD). Such a rheological flow under a pressure >100 atm maximizes the contact between zeolite (NaY) grains and polymer, where the short-range order of the polymer chain packing prevails to assume a higher packing density following the thermodynamic tendency that favors increasing the packing density upon isothermal compression, i.e., (∂μ/∂P) T = 1/ρ.…”
