Pyrolysis: A Sustainable Way to Generate Energy from Waste

Abstract: Lignocellulosic biomass is a potentially more valuable renewable resource that can be utilized effusively as a chief source of heat for cooking and can correspondingly subsidize the production of electricity, heat, biofuels and chemicals including solid fuel like char or carbon. Lignocellulosic residues are mixed and burnt with coal to generate electricity. Presently, crude oil is replaced by bioethanol and biodiesel produced from biomass substrate. Some special class of chemicals can be derived from biomass t… Show more

“…The most common methods adopted in refining and upgrading the liquid fuels or bio-oils obtained from the treated medical waste by pyrolysis technique include emulsification, catalytic hydrogenation, fractional condensation and distillation. Among them, the most promising approach would be the fractionation of pyrolysis products, which efficiently separates out the liquid fuel or bio-oils and the fine chemicals ( Zaman et al, 2017 ; Erdogan, 2020 ; Fang et al, 2020 ). Separating the fractions and simultaneously continuing the condensation process has helped direct the significant recovery of liquid fuels.…”

“…The macromolecular compounds present in the CMW are thus broken down into simpler compounds like solid or liquid fuels, crude synthetic gases, and carbonaceous materials (coke, char). The solid or liquid products so formed have high commercial value and also can act as an alternative energy substitute for the existing fossil fuels, which are nowadays getting depleted ( Singh and Ruj, 2016 ; Zaman et al, 2017 ; Basu, 2018 ).…”
