Gower (16) drew attention to the current confusion and advised that in obscure cases the term fever of unknown origin should be retained, the designation collagenous disease not being used unless there is positive evidence of such a condition. However, Gower admitted that in these cases of fever of unknown etiology which show features described above as belonging to anarthritic rheumatoid disease or giant-cell arteritis there are features closely resembling the collagen diseases.…”
