PVPylated Poly(alanine) as a New Thermogelling Polymer

Abstract: In order to investigate poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) as an alternative to poly(ethylene glycol) in preparing a biomedical polymer, we synthesized a series of reverse thermogelling poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidoneb-alanine) (PVP-PA). The amphiphilic polymers consisting of the hydrophilic PVP block and the hydrophobic PA block formed micelles in water and the micelles aggregated as the temperature increased. FTIR spectroscopy, circular dichrosim spectroscopy, and 13 C NMR spectroscopy showed that the aggregation behavior a… Show more

“…A new thermogelling poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone)-PA (PVP-PA) has been reported. [63] Aqueous solutions of the polymers showed sol-to-gel transitions. Gel formation was attributed to hydrophobic association and formation of a b-sheet structure.…”

“…The hydrogels were stable in phosphate buffer but degraded quickly in the presence of enzymes. A new thermogelling poly( N ‐vinyl pyrrolidone)‐PA (PVP‐PA) has been reported 63. Aqueous solutions of the polymers showed sol‐to‐gel transitions.…”

“…Great efforts have been devoted to design thermosensitive micelles due to their scientific and industrial importance . Without a doubt, the most widely adopted strategy is to synthesize copolymers containing thermosensitive polymers such as polymers with lower critical solution temperature (LCST) or some biomacromolecules . Thus, there would be a temperature‐induced conformational change in these thermosensitive polymers including coil to globule transition in the synthetic polymers or a transition between different secondary structures in most biomacromolecules and polypeptides.…”
