PVC Coated with an Indole Derivative-Loaded Triton X-100: a New Sorbent for Cu, Zn and Mn Ions

Abstract: A method of separation and preconcentration for the determination of Zn, Cu, and Mn in natural water was described and real samples studied using flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The method is based on the adsorption of Mn 2+ , Cu 2+ and Zn 2+ onto 3-((1H-Indol-3-yl)(3-nitrophenol)methyl)-1H indole (INMI) that is loaded onto Triton X-100-coated polyvinyl chloride. The effects of pH, reagent amount, sample volume and matrix of the sample on the sorption of metal ions were also investigated. Detection limit… Show more

“…The presented preconcentration procedure shows high tolerance to interference from matrix ions. Preconcentration factor is higher (250) than some other methods [1,4,[12][13][14][15]. The column is also easily reproducible without the need of pre-conditioning or activation steps.…”

“…In trace analysis, therefore, a pre-concentration and/or separation of trace elements from the matrix are frequently necessary to improve the detection limit and selectivity [1]. Various methods have been used for the enrichment and separation of heavy metal ions.…”

“…Then the Test Procedure described above was applied. For the application of the present procedure to amalgam alloy, an accurately weighed 0.4 g portion of each amalgam alloy sample was digested as described previously 28,29 . and dissolved in the smallest volume of water, and the solution was transferred to a 100 mL volumetric flask by adjustment of the pH of the solution to the desired value; then the Test Procedure described above was carried out.…”
