Purity Determination of Acetaldehyde in an Acetaldehyde Certified Reference Material

Abstract: Acetaldehyde is regulated as a toxic substance in various fields, and the method for monitoring or analysis of acetaldehyde is important. However, handling is difficult because of the high reactivity and low boiling point of acetaldehyde. Therefore, a reference material for high purity acetaldehyde with high accuracy was not available. Although the measuring method of acetaldehyde as a reagent is published in the Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) where the specification of acetaldehyde purity is more than 80%… Show more

“…In the case of titrimetry, a compound-independent measurement can be realized by direct measurements of certain residues such as -NH 2 and -COOH in the target molecules. NMIJ applies acidometric titration to characterize some clinical test items [26,27]; and items for further study indicated in the Waterworks Act, perfluorooctanoic acid [28] and acetaldehyde [29].…”

“…A certified reference material (CRM), which is known as one kind of substance or material possessing one or more homogenous and stable property values with uncertainties under a specific confidence level, plays a very important role in the metrological sciences referring to instrument calibration, analytical method validation, and quantity transfer and traceability [ 1 ]. Therefore, precise and accurate assignment of property value should be a priority of all in the development of a CRM.…”
