“…The broad absorption bands with strong intensities at approximately 1420 and 1374 cm −1 in the spectra of PEP1‐A, PEP2‐A and PEP3‐A were likely due to deforming vibrations of the C–H bond (Zeng et al , ,b). Absorption peaks at 1240 and 816 cm −1 represent the sulphuryl groups (SO3-) in PEP1‐A, PEP2‐A and PEP3‐A (Sun et al , ,b), and may include the asymmetrical S=O stretching vibration and a symmetrical C–O–S stretching vibration associated with a C–O–SO 3 group, respectively (Sun et al , ,b). The peak at 1076.04 cm −1 was attributed to a C–O–C stretching vibration peak.…”

“…According to the molecular weight measurement, the highest molecular weight was observed for PEP2‐A at 9.506 × 10 6 Da. Polysaccharides with different molecular weights (Mw) have different levels of viscosity, water solubility and biological activity, such as the ability to pass through barriers and enter the cell (Sun et al , ,b). Regarding the monosaccharide composition, PEP1‐A and PEP2‐A were composed of four monosaccharides: fucose, galactose, glucose and mannose.…”

“…In the three spectra, the absorption peaks at approximately 1610-1655 cm −1 corresponded to carbonyl groups (C=O) and were caused by the bending mode of bound water, while the absorption peak at approximately 1400 cm −1 was the C-O stretching vibration [26,29,34,35]. A strong absorption peak at 1615 cm −1 presented carboxyl groups (COO−) in GUPS-III, indicating the existence of uronic acids [36,37]. A strong band between 950 and 1160 cm −1 in the three spectra of GUPS were attributed to the stretching vibrations of the pyranose ring [38].…”

“…Recently, a xylogalactomannan fraction containing galactose, mannose and xylose in molar ratio 2.4:2.2:1, and 21% sulfate was isolated from C. lentillifera . It consisted in 3-linked and terminal β- d -galactopyranose units, the former partially sulfated on C-6, 4-, 2,4-, and 2-linked β- d -mannopyranose units, the latter sulfated on C-3, and 4-linked 3-sulfated, and terminal β- d -xylopyranose units ( Sun et al, 2018 ; Sun et al, 2020 ). This sample was reported to have a molecular weight of 3877.8 kDa, which is quite high for a sulfated polysaccharide, leading us to speculate that it could comprise several aggregated polysaccharides.…”
