Purification and characterization of a novel lipopeptide from Streptomyces amritsarensis sp. nov. active against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

Abstract: Nowadays antimicrobial lipopeptides are being widely exploited for developing potential therapeutic agents for treating bacterial infections. In the present study, we have purified and characterized an antimicrobial lipopeptide produced by Streptomyces amritsarensis sp. nov. (= MTCC 11845T = JCM 19660T). The lipopeptide was purified using silica gel chromatography, size exclusion chromatography and reverse phase- HPLC. The MS/MS analysis of the lipopeptide revealed that it has amino acid sequence as Ala-Thr-Gl… Show more

“…Bacillus related lipopeptides [6] and Pseudomonas related lipopeptides [7] are the most studied. In addition, lipopeptides can be produced by actinomycete [8,9] and diverse fungal strains [10,11]. Surfactin, Iturin, Fengycin and Lichenysin are among the most documented lipopeptides.…”

“…Согласно литературным данным, аминолипиды (липопептиды) являют ся более эффективными антимикробными и антиадгезивными агентами по сравнению с гликолипидами [18,20]. Ранее [1] было установлено, что био синтез аминолипидов у A. calcoaceticus IM B B-7241 осуществляется при участии НАДФ+-зависимой глутаматдегидрогеназы.…”

“…The lipopeptide was pH and protease stable. The antimicrobial action could be attributed to the surfactant nature of the lipopeptide (Sharma et al 2014). Paenibacterin acted on both Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria.…”
