"Pure" method for depositing platinum nanoparticles onto the carbon material from a Pt2dba3 solution

Abstract: An efficient method was proposed for preparing supported platinum nanoparticles on the graphite by the deposition of Pt(0) binuclear clusters. The one step method serves to promptly deposite Pt particles with a uniform morphology avoiding the use of additional reagents, such as reducing agents and stabilizers, which can be sorbed by carbon supports to contaminate the catalysts. Electron microscopy revealed an average size of platinum nanoparticles of 3-4 nm and a narrow particle size distribution.

“…PtNPs@GNF‐1 and PtNPs@GNF‐2 were produced using Pt(acac) 2 and Pt(dba) 3 , using similar experimental procedures to those for PdNPs@GNF‐1 and PdNPs@GNF‐2, respectively (Experimental section). HRTEM imaging of PtNPs@GNF‐1 showed Pt nanoparticles distributed along the step edges of the nanoreactor with an average particle size of 4.21 ± 1.54 nm (Figure c,e), and for PtNPs@GNF‐2 much smaller nanoparticles with an average size of 1.55 ± 0.48 nm located mostly in the interior of the nanoreactor (Figure S3g,h, Supporting Information).…”

“…66 The purity of Pt 2dba 3 •CHCl 3 was determined according to a previously described methodology. 67 The amounts of precatalyst were taken with respect to calculated purity. Pt 2 dba 3 •CHCl 3 (2.2 mg) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) (255 mg) were added to the flask with 3 mL of solvent (CHCl 3 , THF or toluene).…”

“…Palladium on activated carbon (Pd content: 1%, received from Acros) was used as received. Pd NPs, Pt NPs, and Au NPs supported on carbon materials were prepared according to methods described earlier. ,, Ni/C, Co/C, Fe/C, and Cu/C systems were produced by impregnation of graphite with dissolved metal precursor in acetonitrile and further thermal decomposition. Ni(acac) 2 , Co(acac) 2 , Fe(OAc) 2 , and Cu(acac) 2 were used as precursors of metals (received from Merck, ABCR, Acros Organics, and Sigma-Aldrich, respectively).…”
