Pupa affinis (A. Adams, 1855) (Gastropoda: Acteonidae) a newly recorded species from Iraq, with an updated checklist of the marine gastropods from the Iraqi coast

Abstract: The present study is part of an ongoing project on the mollusc diversity of Iraq. Specimens of the gastropod Pupa affinis were collected live from the intertidal zone of the northwest of the Persian Gulf, Iraq, in the Fao region. The species was identified to species level using standard taxonomic literature. It is widely distributed in the Persian Gulf; however, this study provides the first record from the Iraqi coast. Also, a checklist of the marine gastropods from the Iraqi coast is provided and now compri… Show more

“…Marine gastropods and bivalves are some of the most diverse invertebrate groups in nature, but in Iraq a better knowledge of their taxonomic composition is required. Although there are important studies on mollusks in the Iraqi marine coast (Ahmed, 1974;Al-Hassan and Al-Hasani, 1985;Yasser & Naser, 2021;Yasser et al, 2022), many new records are being recorded from time to time.…”

“…The marine Mollusca of Iraq are poorly studied with the most recent being a checklist of marine gastropods (Yasser & Naser, 2021) in which 34 species are recorded. No recent equivalent list for the Bivalvia is available but a few species were recorded by Ahmed (1975), andAl-Hassan &Al-Hasani (1985).…”
