SUMMARY
A survey of the literature and a classification of aspergillus infections is presented.
Two unusual cases of secondary aspergillosis are described.
One of these was a patient with leukaemia on vigorous drug therapy, who subsequently developed secondary aspergillosis in the form of multiple mycotic lung abscesses. There was also systemic dissemination of the fungus with involvement of an aortic mural thrombus.
The other case was that of a man with recurrent attacks of bronchopneumonia, which were treated with antibiotics, and with subsequent superinfection by aspergillus.
In the presence of unusual and unexplained pulmonary lesions in the lung, the possibility of fungal infection must be considered.
