Pulmonary Glomus Tumor

Abstract: Glomus tumor, also known as glomangioma, is a neoplasm derived from cells of the neuromyoarterial glomus or glomus body. We report a case of glomus tumor of the lung arising in the left lower lobe, incidentally found in a patient who underwent right bilobectomy for a carcinoma localized in the right upper lobe.

“…Pulmonary glomus tumors are usually detected incidentally on chest radiographs. [8] Although glomangiomas are essentially benign lesions, the correct diagnosis has to be confirmed by the histopathological examination since glomangiomas do not present with specific findings in CT, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or 2-deoxy-2-[18F] fluoro-D-glucose positron emission tomography. [4] The characteristic morphological and immunohistochemical findings of glomangioma can be easily diagnosed by pathological examination.…”

“…La segunda variante, llamada glomangioma, contiene mayor proporción de vasos sanguíneos, generalmente dilatados, simulando un hemangioma cavernoso, y suele ser menos circunscrita que la forma usual. La variante más infrecuente, denominada glomangiomioma, muestra una transición de las células glómicas a células musculares lisas alargadas 3,6 .…”
