“…The cysts may take various forms, such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia as described by Weinblatt et al (29), mesothelial cyst as reported by Kern and Stiles (31) and Valderrama et al (34), or congenital cysts as in the cases of Sunner et al (33) and Holland-Moritz and Heyn (30). In some of these cases there was an interval between the diagnosis of a cystic lesion in the lung and the occurrence of the pulmonary blastoma.…”

“…There are several reports of both adult-type and childhood pulmonary blastoma, primary pulmonary rhabdomyosarcoma, and malignant mesenchymoma of the lung occurring in association with preexisting or simultaneously recognized cystic disease of the lung (22,23,27,(29)(30)(31)(32)(33)(34). The cysts may take various forms, such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia as described by Weinblatt et al (29), mesothelial cyst as reported by Kern and Stiles (31) and Valderrama et al (34), or congenital cysts as in the cases of Sunner et al (33) and Holland-Moritz and Heyn (30).…”

“…Valderrama et al [10] recently reported two patients with what they considered to be cystic pulmonary blastomas. Sumner et al [8] described a 4 year old girl who developed a non-cystic pulmonary blastoma of the right lower lobe three years after a peripheral pulmonary cyst was removed from this same lobe by segmental resection. These cases may also represent sarcomas arising in areas of cystic pulmonary maldevelopment as they seem to differ from more typical examples of pulmonary blastoma.…”

“…Hamartoma and pulmonary blastoma [27,28] are seen occasionally, but other primary malignant pulmonary neoplasms are exceedingly rare. Pulmonary blastoma is a malignant tumor believed to be derived from primitive pulmonary blastoma.…”
