Pullulan: an advantageous natural polysaccharide excipient to formulate tablets of alendronate-loaded microparticles

Abstract: This work reports the preparation of tablets by direct compression of sodium alendronate-loaded microparticles, using pullulan as filler. The tableting properties of pullulan were compared with those of microcrystalline cellulose and lactose. Pullulan tablets showed low variations in average weight, thickness and drug content. Moreover, these tablets exhibited a higher hardness compared to the other excipients. In vitro release studies showed that only pullulan was capable to maintain gastroresistance and relea… Show more

“…Pullulan tablets exhibit better hardness, in vitro release, and maintain gastro resistance of microparticle (Patel et al., 2012 ). A tablet of sodium alendronate-loaded microparticles was prepared by direct compression using pullulan as filler (Ferreira et al., 2015 ). Its tissue engineering and grafting enhances its use in biomedical and pharmaceutical field.…”

“…O pullulan consiste em um polissacarídeo que serve para formar uma malha molecular, devido a sua solubilidade em água, apresenta um alto potencial para formação de filmes que demonstram força mecânica significativa, esse polissacarídeo é comestível e também biodegradável (KULKARNI et al, 2010;FERREIRA et al, 2015).…”
