Publishing and interacting with linked data

Abstract: In order to make a Semantic Web dataset more usable to a wider range of users, specially Linked Data ones, Rhizomer constitutes a tool for data publishing in the web that in addition to common data browsing mechanisms based on HTML rendering, provides a set of components that facilitate awareness of the dataset at hand borrowed from Information Architecture. Rhizomer automatically generates navigation menus taking into account the ontologies used by the dataset and facets based on how properties are instantiat… Show more

“…The majority of IA research has focused on the design and evaluation of websites, but some has explored other domains. For example, IA has been used in the design of usable security tools [14], as the basis of a semantic web structuring tool [7,8,15], to investigate the accessibility, use and reuse of information across multiple devices [40], to evaluate different information visualization tools [33], and for mobile applications screen-reader navigation [19,67]. One body of research has compared IA to other attributes of information sites.…”

“…For instance, if the dataset changes from containing mainly data about projects to mainly about publications, the menu would change accordingly to show the part of the dataset structure about publications more prominently. More details about the implementation of navigation menus are available from (García, Brunetti, López-Muzás, Gimeno, & Gil, 2011).…”

“…The idea of also applying REST for updating has gained more interest only recently: [2] e.g. mentions an information resource modification mechanism based on REST, and [4] described an actual implementation of an approach called Rhizomer that is similar to ours, but the authors do not go into further detail. The article [10] provides a very interesting comparison of similarities and differences between Linked Data and REST.…”
