Abstract

Welcome to Volume 3 of Perspectives of the ASHA Special Interest Groups. The past 2 years have been a time of transformational change for us-with Volume 1 marking the consolidation of 19 separate SIG publications into one, and with Volume 2 representing the first year that Perspectives was formally designated as a peer-reviewed publication. As we embark on 2018, an even greater level of transformation is already underway, though this time it is largely going on behind the scenes. Last October, the ASHA Board of Directors approved the proposal to transition Perspectives from being a peer-reviewed newsletter to a peer-reviewed scholarly review journal. That change in status will formally go into effect on January 1, 2019. However, to make that happen, much has to be done during 2018. A good bit of that work will be operational in nature, but a more substantive change that you should be aware of involves the adoption of an editorial board structure very similar to what was put in place in 2017 for the other ASHA journals.
