Publication Trends and Hot Spots in Chronic Postsurgical Pain (CPSP) Research: A 10-Year Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract: Aging populations and increasing quality of life requirements have attracted growing efforts to study chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP). However, a diverse range of factors are involved in CPSP development, which complicates efforts to predict and treat this disease. To advance research in this field, our study aimed to use bibliometric analysis to quantitatively and qualitatively evaluate CPSP research and predict research hot spots over the last 10 years. Methods: Relevant publications between 2011 and 2020 w… Show more

“…In addition, the geographical distribution of these institutions indicated the same region or neighboring regions, which is consistent with previous studies in the nursing field (Zhu et al, 2020). The largest node of international collaborations was based on universities from England, Australia, the USA, and China, suggesting that international collaborations were critical in the top studies of such fields, which was consistent with the results of many studies (Chong et al, 2021;Li et al, 2021;Zhang S. et al, 2021). This indicates that the academic capacity of an institution is positively related to its cooperative relationship (Chong et al, 2021;Li et al, 2021;Zhang S. et al, 2021).…”

“…The reported rates of CPSP after VATS varies widely, such a difference between studies may be related to the methodology (uni-portal vs. multi-portal VATS), perioperative analgesia regimen and CPSP definition. Additionally, “risk factor” has been a hot spot in the field of CPSP research in recent 10 years [ 12 ]. Surgical procedure, age, physical health, mental health, preoperative pain in the surgical field and another area have been proved to be risk factors for the occurrence of CPSP after several surgical procedures [ 13 , 14 ].…”

“…It is well known that in recent years there had been a significant increase in the number of publications in the field of pain, such as pain after spinal cord injury, 37 chronic postsurgical pain, 38 etc. As shown in Figure 1 , the number of CS-related articles was on a very steady upward trend, which indicated a great potential for future development.…”
