Public transport is an essential service. It plays an important role in providing employment, education, and health care services, especially for people of low-income groups. Despite the availability of sufficient public transport, many times commuters face difficulties in accessing public transport, so efforts are being made by the government to improve access to it. The Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir is planning to build the Jammu Light Metro system as part of a smart city mission to make good public transport available to commuters. But generally, there is a gap between the transit service and those who intend to avail of it. This paper is regarding a research study to access the futuristic service gap which will exist between Commuter and the Metro lite system in Jammu City using Public Transport Accessibility Level methodology. The methodology uses parameters like peak hour, bus frequency, reliability factor, walk distance, and walk speed to determine the public transport accessibility index. The obtained accessibility values have been linked to the base map to create heat maps showing accessibility levels throughout the municipal area in the form of colour codes representing different ranges of accessibility. Further heat maps have been analysed and recommendations for transportation planning have been made for policymakers.

Introduction. This article is devoted to the problem of determining the territorial (pedestrian) accessibility of stopping points in large cities, which is one of the indicators of the quality of transport services for the population.The aim of the study is to develop a methodology for determining the territorial (pedestrian) accessibility of stopping points of a large city with a thousand or more stopping points, based on publicly available data. The cause of the study was the dificulty of solving this problem, due to the large number of both stopping points and residential facilities, the straightforwardness of the shortest pedestrian approach, the lack of detailed instructions for performing calculations, etc. Based on the review of Russian and foreign scientific sources, approaches to determining the territorial accessibility of stopping points were considered, taking into account various additional parameters, such as the number of routes passing through a stopping point, the intensity of passenger exchange, the availability of socially significant objects, etc. The existing difficulties and peculiarities in determining the availability of stopping points for individual and multi-apartment residential buildings are given. In the framework of the System-wide measures for the development of road facilities federal project and the Safe and high-quality roads national project when preparing an application for the purchase of passenger transport rolling stock for Omsk, the authors carried out scientific and practical work, as a result, a methodology has been developed to overcome some difficulties in determining the transport accessibility of stopping points in a large city by using a partially automated approach at its individual stages.Materials and methods. In particular, tools such as Yandex Map Designer, Table Excel Editor, Xtools Add-in for Excel, QGIS program, Macro in Excel using JavaScript API and HTTP geocoder were used.Results. The calculation of territorial accessibility of stopping points using the developed methodology was carried out for Omsk. The application of this technique allows to reduce labour intensity of calculations up to 10 times. Discussion. Measuring Accessibility to Various ASFs from Public Transit using Spatial Distance Measures in Indian Cities

Nowadays, accessibility to facilities is one of the most discussed issues in sustainable urban planning. In the current research, two spatial distance accessibility measures were applied to evaluate the accessibility to amenities, services, and facilities (ASFs) from public transit (PT) by walking distance in six Indian cities. The first stage accounts for distance measures using the Euclidean distance with a new methodical approach derived from the built-up area with a spatial resolution of 30 m from Landsat data, and for the network distance method, the actual road distances using OpenStreetMap (OSM) for different threshold ranges of distances were derived. Meanwhile, in the second stage, indicators such as built-up area, network connectivity, and network density with the percentage of ASFs are evaluated and combined for normalization process for ranking the city. The present study assesses the accessibility to various ASFs from PT at city level and explores whether the actual road network access (by measuring distance) in Indian cities is contributing to a high level of accessibility. It adopts a unique approach using statistical tools while assessing both Euclidean and network distances. It models a framework for overall benchmarking in all six cities by ranking them for their accessibility. The results show various scenarios in terms of the rank of cities, which had been strongly affected by distance metrics (Euclidean vs. network) and thus emphasize the careful use of these measures as supporting tools for planning. This facilitates the identification of the local barriers and problems with network access that affect the actual distance. This unique approach can help policymakers to identify the gaps in PT coverage for reaching ASFs. Furthermore, it helps in crucial implementation by strategic planning that can be achieved using these distance criteria.
