Public Policy Measures to Increase Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination Rate in Russia

Abstract: The total vaccination rate remains relatively low in Russia as of March 2022 (around 55%, with around 20% in some regions). In the paper, we study the reasons for it. We communicate the results of our survey aimed at detecting reasons for the relatively low anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccination rate in Russia (47.1% as of mid-January 2022) and suggest potential measures to increase the level of confidence in the Russian vaccination campaign. A total of 14,310 users exhibited interest to participate in the research (16.8… Show more

“…We did not find significant differences in the age of patients in the comparison groups and the gender ratio in the groups. The fraction of vaccinated patients (two doses of Sputnik V vaccine) in the Wave 3 group was insignificant and equal to 8.7%, slightly lower than the citywide vaccination rate for June 2021–15% ( Boguslavsky, Sharova & Sharov, 2022 ). There was a significant increase in the proportion of patients with obstructive pulmonary disease (Fisher’s exact test p = 0.01), obesity (Fisher’s exact test p = 0.01, OR = 3.8), hypertension (Fisher’s exact test p = 0.003, OR = 2.4) in the third wave of COVID-19.…”

“…A recent study by Roschina et al has highlighted a high degree of ‘vaccine hesitancy’ in Russia, with only 45% of those surveyed in 2021 demonstrating positive attitudes towards the vaccination program [ 40 ]. As of March 2022, the total vaccination rate remains relatively low in Russia (around 55%, with around 20% in some regions) [ 41 ]. This compares unfavourably to even the global figure of around 60%, and is lower than in Pakistan and The Philippines.…”
