PtRu Colloid Nanoparticles for CO Oxidation in Microfabricated Reactors

Abstract: The catalytic activity of PtRu colloid nanoparticles for CO oxidation is investigated in microfabricated reactors. The measured catalytic performance describes a volcano curve as a function of the Pt/Ru ratio. The apparent activation energies for the different alloy catalysts are between 21 and 117 kJ/mol, which agree well with literature. The size distribution of the colloid nanoparticles is determined from STM and TEM, from which an average size of the colloid nanoparticles of 2.2±0.5 nm is determined.

“…[12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20] Especially, Pt-Ru alloy has obtained special interest as a catalyst for CO oxidation based on theoretical and empirical studies of CO oxidation mechanisms. [21][22][23][24][25][26][27] Two mechanisms have been proposed to explain the activities of Pt-based catalysts. One is the bifunctional mechanism proposed by Watanabe and his colleagues.…”

“…Much interest has been devoted to investigate the dependence of CO oxidation on the composition of Pt-Ru alloy catalysts recently. 12,24,27,36 Therefore, the present study aims to investigate the effect of the important factor, i.e. composition of the Pt-Ru alloy catalysts, on the electrochemical and electronic properties of the catalysts for the catalytic oxidation of CO.…”
