Pt-nanoparticle functionalized carbon nano-onions for ultra-high energy supercapacitors and enhanced field emission behaviour

Abstract: In the present work, we have investigated the charge storage capacitive response and field emission behaviour of platinum (Pt) nanoparticles decorated on carbon nano onions (CNOs) and compared them with those of pristine carbon nano onions.

“…Many experimental facts have proved that carbon coating is one of the most commonly used techniques for improving the performance of electrode materials . Zheng et al favorably synthesized V 2 O 3 @AC core–shell composites, with a unique structure of high specific surface area (83.2 m 2 g −1 ) via heat treatment.…”

“…This indicates the positive influence of H 2 O molecules [32] and 2D layered morphology of bare samples in the electrochemical performance, since in bare samples, the 2D nanostructure and H 2 O spacer between the interplanar layers ( Figure 4j) can greatly induce the diffusion and migration path of Na + ions for more intercalation and de-intercalation reactions than that of 1D heat-treated samples. [63,64] Figure 6c and Figure S7c (Supporting Information) shows the comparative GCD curves of AVO, KVO, and NVO and HAVO, HKVO, and HNVO samples at a constant current density of 0.5A g −1 . Figure S8a,b (Supporting Information) shows that as the scan rate increases the specific capacitance values exhibit a decreasing trend, since at low scan rate, the electrolytic ions take sufficient time to interact with the bulk of the active material and show a higher specific capacitance value.…”

“…Based on the above discussion, in this study, we demonstrate a composite electrode comprising MnO 2 nanoparticles loaded on a porous ZnCo 2 O 4 nanosheet material supported on graphene coated on a Ni foam substrate, which is shown in Fig. 1 2 ), sodium sulphate (Na 2 SO 4 ) and hydrochloric acid (HCl) were commercially available from Aladdin Chemical Co. All materials were analytical grade reagents, commercially available and used without any purication. Ni foam (thickness: 1.5 mm, pore density: 100 PPI, areal density: 380 g m À2 ) was obtained from Changsha Lyrun New Materials Corporation.…”

“…1 For utilizing renewable sources, supercapacitors are one of the most promising candidates on account of their fast charging capabilities, high power densities and good cycling performances. 2 Although they have these excellent features, the relatively low energy densities of supercapacitors seriously limit their large-scale practical application. 3 Thus, it is necessary to improve the energy densities of supercapacitors to meet future energy demand.…”
