Psychovisual evaluations of many luminous environments on the internet

Abstract: In the process of lighting design, usually many lighting alternatives are assessed against criteria such as energy consumption, lamp type, price and also user preferences collected through psychovisual experiments. However, these experiments induce subject fatigue, which limits the number of lighting alternatives that can be evaluated. To overcome this limitation, we propose a new protocol based on (1) the use of the internet and (2) an incomplete experimental design in which each subject judges only a subset … Show more

“…A larger test group would also benefit from the different viewing conditions on different monitors. 91 This study and its light scenes concentrate on qualitative lighting concepts and therefore include general recommendations for retail lighting, but an analysis of visual performance encompassing aspects such as colour rendering or glare was not carried out. The display of the visualisations on monitors also limited the possible luminance contrast in relation to the real environment.…”

“…Moreover, the validation of psychovisual tests on the internet was conducted with images produced with V-Ray. 10,15 The experimental campaign lasted four months. Subjects could select the time they wanted to spend doing the experiment, and so some of them provided data for several psychovisual tests.…”
