Background: The recent pandemic of COVID-19 has had a tremendous impact on healthcare frontliners. This study sought to assess healthcare shift workers’ depression, anxiety, and stress and its associated factors. Methods: The sampling frame includes healthcare shift workers directly managing COVID-19 cases around Klang Valley, Malaysia. The participants’ mental health status was assessed using the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). The associated factors specified in this study include sleep quality, physical activities, and eating habits. Pearson’s χ2 and simple and multivariable binary logistic regression models were constructed following the Hosmer–Lemeshow approach to determine the potential associated factors. Results: A total of 413 participants were recruited. Overall, 40.7% of participants had one or more symptoms of depression, anxiety, or stress. Poor sleep quality was significantly associated with all mental health outcomes of depression, anxiety, and stress. Inactivity was found to be strongly associated with symptoms of depression and anxiety. At the same time, eating habits were strongly associated with anxiety and stress. Conclusions: Sleep quality, inactivity, and eating habits that were found to be associated with the mental health status of healthcare shift workers are modifiable factors that must be addressed to curb mental health issues among this group of workers.

Objective To investigate the association of sociodemographic factors, lifestyle, work organization, and professional profile with work ability in professional drivers. Methods Cross-sectional study with 449 drivers in Curitiba, Paraná (Brazil). Participants were assessed regarding their work ability (Work Ability Index; WAI), sociodemographic, lifestyle (physical activity [Baecke’s questionnaire] and stress [Work Stress Scale]), work organization, and professional profile using self-completion instruments. The association of WAI with sociodemographic factors, lifestyle, work organization, and professional profile was determined by multivariable ordinal logistic regression models. Results Lifestyle factors best explained the WAI variability. The WAI was inversely associated with stress and occupational physical activities but directly associated with leisure activities and locomotion and leisure-time physical exercise. Conclusions Our data also challenges the concept that sociodemographic information and ergonomics organization influence determining the work ability of this population.

Objective: to identify the factors associated with the pattern of alcohol consumption among motorcycle taxi drivers. Methods: cross-sectional study, carried out with 68 motorcycle taxi professionals. A socio-demographic questionnaire, work-related aspects, traffic accidents and the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification were used, for the pattern of alcohol use. The Chi-square and Fisher’s exact association tests were used for data analysis and logistic regression. Results: it was found that 48.5% consumed alcoholic beverages, 75.0% had low risk consumption, 16.2% risk, 7.4% harmful use and 1.5% possible dependence. The variables that obtained significance were naturalness, use of alcoholic beverages and quantity of drinks drunk in the day. Conclusion: there was a trend between naturalness and risky consumption. In addition, using alcoholic beverages monthly and the amount of doses greater than five doses, on the same day, increased 20 times and 10.0% more the chance of triggering problematic alcohol consumption.
