“…As a group, patients with more active SLE reported clinically significant levels of psychological distress. This finding corroborates previous reports of psychological distress in SLE patients (14), and provides support for a link between psychological distress and disease activity. Some caution should be exercised, however, in interpreting these results, as some items on the SCL-90-R may inflate scores (especially on the somatization subscale) because they assess symptoms that may be due to SLE (e.g., weakness in parts of the body, pain).…”

“…Better mental health for patients during less active disease states was associated with less stress, less emotionoriented coping, and more task-oriented coping. Associations between stress and QoL have been previously reported for SLE patients (14), as have associations with passive coping (emotion) and less When we examined contributors to physical health (PCS) as a function of disease states, emotionoriented coping was the only significant association for patients with more active SLE. More emotionoriented coping was related to better physical health.…”

“…There are studies on the role of minor stress [14,18,25,27,28,[36][37][38][39] , on major stress [16,17,23] as well as on minor and major stress [15,19,21,24,26] . Among them, 3 studies [36][37][38] , whose the first objective was not the role of stress, will be examined in the next chapter on coping strategies.…”
