Psychometrican analysis and dimensional structure of the Brazilian version of melasma quality of life scale (MELASQoL-BP)

Abstract: BackgroundAlthough asymptomatic, melasma inflicts significant impact on quality of life. MELASQoL is the main instrument used to assess quality of life associated with melasma, it has been validated in several languages, but its latent dimensional structure and psychometric properties haven´t been fully explored.ObjectivesTo evaluate psychometric characteristics, information and dimensional structure of the Brazilian version of MELASQoL.MethodsSurvey with patients with facial melasma through socio-demographic … Show more

“…The mean value of DLQI found in the sample is classified as a mild effect on the quality of life of patients with POH. However, when compared to other common dermatological diseases, it is noted that the DLQI scores found in some studies on acne, atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis present mean values that correspond, in general terms, to the range of moderate effect on dermatological quality of life . Although there is less impairment of DLQI values when compared to other conditions, quality of life is negatively affected in POH.…”

“…Psychometric measures, as MELASQoL can diverge from clinimetric severity (as MASI) because they subjectively considers the individual perception of the impact from a disease, while MASI objectively assess the extension of the disease and is directly linked to its pathophysiology .…”

“…Psychometric measures, as MELASQoL can diverge from clinimetric severity (as MASI) because they subjectively considers the individual perception of the impact from a disease, while MASI objectively assess the extension of the disease and is directly linked to its pathophysiology [9,13,21]. This study first identified socio-demographic factors that influence either clinimetric and QoL scores in facial melasma, what can explain why MASI and MELASQoL have only modest correlation between their scores in most publications [6-8, 22, 23].…”
