-Objective: Evaluate the accuracy of diagnosis of major depression in patients with parkinson's disease (pd) using the updrs, the 15-item Geriatric depression scale (Gds15) and the Beck depression Inventory (BdI). Method: 50 consecutive patients with pd were evaluated. The diagnosis of major depression was made according to the dsM-IV criteria. Results: We found a 24% prevalence of major depression. All depression scales were highly correlated but updrs depression item had the lowest diagnostic value. The Gds15 had the more appropriate "receiver operating characteristics" curve. The best cut-off scores for screening depression were 17/18 for BdI and 8/9 for Gds15. We did not find any correlation between the level of depression and intensity of motor symptoms, functional capacity and duration of the disease. Conclusion: Gds15 is better than the BdI and the updrs for screening depression in pd and depression is not related to the degree of parkinsonian symptoms.KEY WOrds: depression, parkinson's disease, updrs, Beck depression Inventory, Geriatric depression scale. A precisão do diagnóstico de depressão na doença de Parkinson: um estudo comparativo entre a UPDRS, a Escala Geriátrica de Depressão e o Inventário de Depressão de BeckResumo -Objetivo: Avaliar a precisão do diagnóstico de depressão em pacientes com doença de parkinson avaliados pela updrs, pela Escala Geriátrica de depressão com 15 itens (EGd15) e pelo Inventário de depressão de Beck (IdB). Método: 50 pacientes com dp foram avaliados. O diagnóstico de depressão maior foi feito segundo os critérios do dsM-IV. Resultados: A prevalência de depressão foi 24%. As escalas de depressão tiveram elevada correlação entre si. A updrs apresentou a menor sensibilidade para o diagnóstico. A EGd15 mostrou uma curva rOC mais apropriada que o IdB. Os melhores escores-de-corte para diagnóstico de depressão foram 17/18 para o IdB e 8/9 para a EGd15. Não houve correlação entre os níveis de depressão e a intensidade do parkinsonismo, a capacidade funcional ou a duração da doença. Conclusão: A EGd15 é melhor que o IdB para diagnosticar depressão na dp. Increased prevalence of low back pain among physiotherapy students compared to medical students

Some studies have demonstrated that physiotherapists have a high prevalence of low back pain (LBP). The association between physiotherapy students, who are potentially exposed to the same LBP occupational risks as graduates, and LBP has never been demonstrated. The objective of the study is to evaluate the association between undergraduate physiotherapy study and LBP. The study design includes a cross-sectional study. A questionnairebased study was carried out with physiotherapy and medical students. LBP was measured as lifetime, 1-year and point prevalence. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed to find the factors associated with LBP. Bivariate analyses were also performed to assess differences between LBP characteristics in the two courses. 77.9% of the students had LBP at some point in their lives, 66.8% in the last year and 14.4% of them reported they were suffering from LBP at the moment of answering the questionnaire. Physiotherapy students reported a higher prevalence of LBP when compared with the medical students in all measures. In the logistic regression model, physiotherapy students (A-OR 2.51; 95% CI 1.35-4.67; p = 0.003), and being exposed to the undergraduate study for more than four semesters (A-OR 2.55; 95% CI 1.43-4.55; p = 0.001) were independently associated with LBP. There were no differences between the courses concerning pain intensity and disability. As it was a crosssectional study, we were not able to observe accurately if there is an increasing incidence of LBP during the course. Also, we did not intend to identify which activities in the course were associated with the development of LBP. This study clearly demonstrated an association between undergraduate physiotherapy study and LBP. The length of course exposure is also associated with LBP.

A infertilidade interrompe um projeto de vida pessoal e do casal, produzindo sofrimento psíquico. O desenvolvimento das técnicas de reprodução assistida possibilitou a solução para casais que anteriormente não teriam alternativas de tratamento. Assim, a fertilização in vitro constitui uma nova fonte de esperança para ter um filho, mas, ao mesmo tempo, pode ser acompanhada de muitas dificuldades. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar os estados emocionais de homens e mulheres submetidos à fertilização in vitro e verificar a relação entre estado emocional das mulheres e ocorrência de gravidez. Foram avaliados vinte casais submetidos ao primeiro ciclo de fertilização in vitro, entre o 5º e o 10º dia após a transferência dos pré-embriões. A avaliação foi realizada por meio de testes psicológicos e entrevistas. As mulheres apresentaram níveis mais altos de ansiedade e depressão que os homens. A autoestima delas mostrou-se mais baixa. Um quarto das mulheres que apresentaram sintomas psicoemocionais não engravidou, porém esta relação não foi significativa. Concluiu-se que as mulheres apresentaram mais ansiedade e sintomas depressivos que os homens e autoestima mais baixa. O grupo de mulheres com sintomas psicoemocionais apresentou tendência a não engravidar.
