Psychometric Properties of the Emotional Competence Inventory - Short Revised Version (ECI-R)

Abstract: A previous study presented the Emotional Competence Inventory, which was designed with basis on the emotional intelligence theory. It was very long and had a disproportionate number of items for each factor. Therefore, this study aimed to seek for validity evidence based on its internal structure and carry out an analysis of items of the short version of the instrument supported by the Item Response Theory (IRT). The study included 626 Brazilian participants with a mean age of 24.8 years (SD = 8.2). They were … Show more

“…The questionnaire assesses emotional intelligence in terms of competence or ability with four scales: self-awareness, self-motivation, empathy, and social skills. The ECI reliability index is within reasonable limits, and Cronbach's alpha is 0.7 [24]. The result was related to the questionnaire r=0.55-0.88, p<0.001 [19].…”

“…The authors attempted to create a short version (ECI-R) (Bueno et al, 2021). In turn, and according to the new EI paradigm, the Online Battery of Emotional Intelligence (BOLIE) was developed in a computerized manner to assess both cognitive and personality aspects related to emotional intelligence, focusing on the assessment of the ability to perceive emotions, integrating the two theoretical models of EI, ability, and trait.…”
