Zusammenfassung Hintergrund Demenzerkrankungen, vorrangig die Alzheimer-Demenz, nehmen weltweit zu. Ein adäquater Umgang mit dieser Entwicklung erfordert den Einbezug der Bevölkerung in entsprechende Maßnahmen; ebenso erfordert er Kenntnisse über die Einstellungen der Bevölkerung im Hinblick auf die Erkrankung und die Menschen, die von dieser Erkrankung betroffen sind. Um die Einstellung der Schweizer Bevölkerung zu Menschen mit Alzheimer-Demenz oder anderen Demenzformen (MmAD) zu erheben und Faktoren herauszuarbeiten, die diese Einstellung beeinflussen, wurde eine Erhebung durchgeführt. Material und Methoden Die schweizweite telefonische Befragung von 862 Personen ab 18 Jahren (M = 54,9 Jahre) fand in der Zeit von Juli bis September 2018 statt. Ergebnisse Das Alter und die Einstellung zum Alter zeigten sich als signifikante Prädiktoren für die Einstellung zu MmAD. Die Unterteilung dieser Einstellung in eine kognitive und eine affektiv-konative Komponente erwies sich als hilfreich. Kontakt zur Zielgruppe, Informiertheit, erlebte Freuden und eine positive Einstellung zum Alter zeigen einen positiven Zusammenhang bei der affektiv-konativen Komponente, während sich Bildung, Geschlecht und Alter stärker auf die kognitive Komponente auswirken. Dennoch konnten die unabhängigen Variablen nur einen Teil der Varianz erklären. Schlussfolgerung Trotz der insgesamt positiven Einstellung gegenüber MmAD in der Schweizer Bevölkerung ergeben sich aus den Ergebnissen dieser Studie Implikationen für die Praxis, die anzeigen, dass neben der Informiertheit auch die erlebten Kontakte zu MmAD die Einstellung zu diesen Personen positiv beeinflussen. Daraus ergibt sich, dass diese Kontakte gefördert werden sollten, um mögliche negative Bilder gegenüber MmAD zu revidieren.

As the population ages, the number of people living with Alzheimer's disease is expected to grow; consequently, nursing students are expected to care for more people with Alzheimer's disease in their future careers. Exploring nursing students' level of knowledge and attitudes is essential here to fill any knowledge gap and enhance attitudes. For this reason, the current study aimed to measure the knowledge of and attitudes toward people living with Alzheimer's disease among undergraduate Jordanian nursing students. A descriptive cross-sectional design was utilized. Data were collected through an online questionnaire consisting of the Alzheimer's Disease Knowledge Scale (ADKS) and Dementia Attitudes Scale (DAS). A third part contained questions about previous formal education about Alzheimer's disease, reading Alzheimer's research, and the need for formal education about Alzheimer's disease. The study targeted all undergraduate Jordanian nursing students. A total of 275 students agreed to participate and completed the questionnaire. Jordanian nursing students had low knowledge regarding people living with Alzheimer's disease, with a mean ADKS score of 18.3 out of 30; however, their attitudes were positive, with a mean DAS score of 91 out of 140. There was no statistical difference in attitude or knowledge between different academic levels. The majority of students (90.5%) expressed their desire to have a formal education regarding Alzheimer's disease. Knowledge regarding people with Alzheimer's disease could be improved through training and education. Positive attitudes reported by students could augment the learning process.

People with Dementia (PwD) are frequently admitted in general hospitals. However, health care professionals have lack of dementia knowledge, negative attitudes toward dementia, and lack of confidence in caring those patients. The aim of this study is to develop, implement and evaluate a dementia staff training program in Greek general hospitals. It was a repeated-measures research design. Fourteen (14) two-day workshops were conducted, consisting of six targeted and interactive modules. Staff members (N = 242) attended the program and were assessed according to (1) individual performance: questionnaires about attitudes towards dementia, confidence in care, knowledge about dementia and anxiety before, immediately after the training and three months later, (2) an overall training evaluation immediately after the training and (3) an evaluation of training implementation three months later. Positive attitudes towards dementia, improvement of confidence in care and decrease of feeling of anxiety as a trait, were sustained over time. Knowledge about dementia also increased after the training and sustained, with, however, a slight decrease over time. A well applied training program seems to provide the basis of a better care in PwD during hospitalization. However, changes in the organizational level and a transformation of care culture are necessary for training sustainability over time.
