Psychometric evaluation of the Chinese version of the Snizek-revised Hall’s Professionalism Inventory Scale

Abstract: Objective This study was performed to assess the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Snizek-revised Hall’s Professionalism Inventory Scale (C-SR-HPIS). Methods Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were used to evaluate the construct validity of the C-SR-HPIS. The average variance extracted (AVE) and square root of the AVE were calculated and correlation analyses were performed to test the convergent validity and discriminant validity, respectively. Cronbach’s alpha (α… Show more

“…There have been several attempts to evaluate and quantify nurses’ professionalism. Hall (1968) developed the Professionalism Scale for physicians, nurses and other health care providers (Hall, 1968; Snizek, 1972) and administered it to nurses (Chen, Yu, Yu, Huang, & Zhang, 2019; Kim‐Godwin, Baek, & Wynd, 2010; Wynd, 2003). Miller (1988) in the United States developed the 'Wheel of Professionalism in Nursing' model.…”

“…The results are summarized in Tables 2 and 3. The square roots of the AVEs of each factor were more extensive than their corresponding correlation coefficients with other factors except for FC, indicating that our data had good discriminant validity (Chen et al , 2019; Nunes et al , 2018).…”

“…Hall's Professional Inventory Scale, based on Hall's work and revised by Snizek, is a widely-used instrument, especially in American settings (e.g. Kim-Godwin et al, 2010;Wynd, 2003), although the inventory has also been validated in other countries, such as China (Chen et al, 2019), Korea (Jang et al, 2016;Kim & Baek, 2007), and Iran (Doost et al, 2016;Shohani & Zamanzadeh, 2017). Other studies using instruments to measure nurse professionalism were conducted mainly in the USA, China, Korea, and Iran.…”
