Psychometric Evaluation of Chinese-Language 44-Item and 10-Item Big Five Personality Inventories, Including Correlations with Chronotype, Mindfulness and Mind Wandering

Abstract: The 44-item and 10-item Big Five Inventory (BFI) personality scales are widely used, but there is a lack of psychometric data for Chinese versions. Eight surveys (total N = 2,496, aged 18–82), assessed a Chinese-language BFI-44 and/or an independently translated Chinese-language BFI-10. “…Both versions of the TIPI showed acceptable psychometric properties. Psychometric properties of the Chinese version of TIPI (e.g., test-retest reliability, convergent and discriminant validity) were established in Chinese people (Carciofo et al, 2016). The Dutch-TIPI was shown to be a valid alternative to the existing FFM of personality (Hofmans, Kuppens, & Allik, 2008).…”

“…The BFI is a brief self-report inventory capturing the basic structure of personality based on the broad domains of neuroticism, extraversion, openness, conscientiousness and agreeableness. The BFI has been validated in diverse samples across nations, including English, German, Dutch and Chinese, and is considered a reliable and valid short assessment of broad personality traits (John et al, 1991;Lang et al, 2001;Denissen et al, 2008;Carciofo et al, 2016).…”
