This report compares manifest dream content during pregnancy with subsequent duration of childbirth in primiparae. One hundred pregnant women were screened in a prenatal clinic to rule out potential complications of labor due to mechanical causes or disease processes. Recent dreams obtained from 70 of these women were scored for anxiety, threat, hostility, motility and themes of pregnancy. The scoring of the manifest dream content was compared with the duration of subsequent childbirth as assessed by Friedman's criteria. Both anxiety and threat were significantly most frequent in the dreams of the short labor group (under 10 hours) and least frequent in the dreams of the prolonged labor group (over 20 hours). The implications of these findings are discussed in terms of the function of dreaming as an adaptive mechanism for coping with an impending normal life crisis.The influence of psychologic factors on labor, and especially on the duration of childbirth in women having their first babies, has been investigated by obstetricians, psychologists and psychiatrists for many years (1-6). Fears and anxieties about the inevitable delivery and the new role of motherhood have been considered important contributing causes in prolonged labor in which mechanical or medical reasons are absent. The demonstration that the epinephrine blood level rises with fear and anxiety (7, 8) and that such increases interfere with uterine contractions (9) offers a possible mechanism to explain how such psychologic factors interact with and influence uterine physiology during labor.The assessment of the role of psychic conflict in childbirth is complicated because denial and repression are defense mechanisms used frequently by pregnant women to avoid facing their fears and anxieties. Cramond (10) described suppression and repression as typical characteristics of the "dysfunction temperament" in women with uterine dysfunction during labor. Kennedy (11) pointed out difficulties in eliciting and measuring anxiety, fear and tension in pregnant women which he hypothesized caused or contributed to the syndrome of inefficient uterine action during labor.In this study, we have used the dreams of pregnant women in an attempt to circumvent their defenses to obtain data on underlying fears and anxieties.Childbirth, with its ubiquitous concerns, provides a fertile soil for the action of psychogenic influences. The expectant mother's attitude toward her coming infant, her readiness for motherhood, her changing selfimage and her whole life situation contribute to the psychic influences on her delivery. Expectations and fears of childbirth are intensified with the beginning of labor, and previously existing psychic conflicts are often reactivated.

Pregnancy can be considered a unique situation in a woman's life, with many meanings, a developmental process that will lead to several organic transformations and expressive changes at the biopsychosocial and emotional level. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of anxiety symptoms in pregnant women accompanied by the primary care network, in a city in the Northwest of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. This is a study with qualitative, exploratory and transversal approach. The research participants were 10 pregnant women, aged between 18 and 35 years. For data collection, a semi-structured interview was used. Data analysis revealed that there are several reasons that lead women to present anxiety symptoms during pregnancy. It can be called multidimensional anxiety, as it is characterized by fears and concerns specific to that period. Anxiety symptoms were presented by all pregnant women, whether related to bodily changes, emotional imbalance, lack of family support and/or trauma. The fact that they are going through the stressor of the COVID-19 pandemic may have been an important factor for the increase in these symptoms. These, associated with fear and insecurities about the future and risk of contamination. It is suggested that all pregnant women, when starting their prenatal care, are already accompanied by a psychologist. So that they have the ideal space to bring up their feelings, expectations, fears and the anxiety experienced during this period.

Background: Stress in pregnancy refers to a particular type of stress-related with the interaction with people or any other cause like workload, society etc. Today, however, we are increasingly exposed to prolonged stress which gives rise to problems such as sleep problems, headache, fatigue, memory disturbances and so on. Stress in pregnancy can have a major impact on the mother as well as the developing fetus. Various symptoms and issues faced by the mother can indirectly have an adverse effect on the baby’s development. Aim of Study: The purpose of this study is to understand and identify the effect of stress on women during pregnancy. Method: The research performed included 100 women which give us a general overview of how women of our society whether of high or low socioeconomic status cope with their stress or even understand the term "STRESS" in the first place. This study was carried out in various hospitals (maternity wards) to get an insight into our research. Various aspects were identified in order to draw out clear conclusions. Result and Discussion: 83% of women agreed on the fact of suffering from stress during pregnancy, with the other 16% replying "NO" and the remaining 1% had no clue. Considering the relationship of Socioeconomic factors are mostly affecting in pregnancy which is agreed by 66% of the female population while 18% disagree with this factor. Conclusion: Our overall approach throws light on understanding and detecting these aspects during pregnancy. To help provide better alternatives and have a stress-free pregnancy.
