Psychological distress among adult cancer survivors: importance of survivorship care plan

Abstract: Purpose The goal of our study was to better understand the importance of adult cancer survivors (ACS) receiving Survivorship Care Plans (SCP) especially for their psychological well-being. We hypothesize that the receipt of SCP would decrease the likelihood of symptoms of current depression (SCD) in this population. We used follow-up care instructions (FCI) a… Show more

“…This improved communication and contact with healthcare providers is important because it increases the likelihood a survivor will be screened and catch a recurrence or other side effect early. In addition to more frequent and better interactions with their healthcare provider, survivors who received a SCP were also less likely to report experiencing depressive symptoms both in the short-term and long-term; this benefit was maintained even for survivors who were more than 5 years post-diagnosis (6).…”
