Psychiatric issues in chronically ill adolescents

Abstract: Specialists in pediatric medicine are well-aware of the profound negative effects that chronic physical illnesses have on the health and development of children and adolescents. What may be less obvious-or overlooked altogether-is the psychopathology that co-occurs in many medical conditions that begin in early life. The goal of this paper is to discuss the psychiatric disorders that are commonly comorbid with selected, chronic illnesses in younger patients.
