Ö ÖZ ZE ET T Yanık, çocukların ve ailelerin normal yaşam sürecini ani bir şekilde bozmaktadır. Çocuklar ve aileleri için yanık; fiziksel, psikolojik ve genel görüntü değişiklikleri ile yaşamayı öğrenmesi açı-sından zordur. Çocuk yanıklarının rehabilitasyonu tedavi sonrasında tekrarlayan travmaya alışma, normal aktivitelerine dönme, kalıcı skar ile baş etme, davranış değişiklikleri, aileye ve sosyal çev-reye uyum sağlamayı içermektedir. Aile ilişkilerinin kaybı, korku ve suçluluk duygusu ailenin rehabilitasyonunu olumsuz etkilemektedir. Ebeveynler çocuğun bakımında yalnız olması nedeni ile ailelerinin desteklerine gereksinim duymaktadır. Bunun sonucunda ailelerde anksiyete ve stres arttığı için depresyon da görülebilmektedir. Çocukların ve ailelerinin yanık sonrası uyumunu kolaylaştıran en önemli etmenlerden biri olan destek grupları, yaşanan sorunlar ile başa çıkabilmeyi sağlamakta ve ailelerin stresini azaltmaktadır. Destek grup girişimleri; akranlardan, profesyonellerden ve internet üzerinden alınan desteklerin bütünüdür. Çocuklara ve ailelere verilen desteğin fiziki, psikolojik ve sosyal alanlarda olumlu etkileri bulunmaktadır. Bu nedenle yanık sonrası yapı-lan destek girişimleri yanıkla mücadelede yeni bakış açısı getirmekte ve gelecekle ilgili umutları güç-lendirmektedir. Bu durum da yanık sonrası çocuklara ve ailelere olumlu yönde rehabilitasyon sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışmada, yanıklı çocuklar ve aileleri üzerine destek grup girişimlerinin etkilerini açıklamak ve hemşirelerin destek grup girişimlerindeki rollerinin önemini vurgulamak amaç-lanmıştır.A An na ah h t ta ar r K Ke e l li i m me e l le er r: : Yanık; destek grup; rehabilitasyon; çocuk ve aile, hemşire A AB BS S T TR RA AC CT T Burns alter children's and their families' normal life processes suddenly. For children, burns are hard to accept due to accompanying physical and psychological changes and to learn how to live with the generally altered appearance caused by burns. Burns in children include getting used to trauma that repeats post treatment, getting back to normal activities, coping with permanent post burn scars and adapting to behavioral changes, family and social environment. Families are also negatively affected from burns due to loss of family relationships, fear and feelings of guilt. Since families are alone in terms of child care, they need parent and family support and may experience depression due to increased anxiety and stress levels. Support groups, one of the most important factors that facilitate post burn adaptation for children and families allows coping with problems and decreases stress levels experienced by families. Support groups initiatives is defined as the total support received from peers, professions and online and it has positive effects on physical health and wellbeing. This study was conducted with a descriptive and cross‐sectional design to demonstrate the effect of social appearance anxiety and body perception on quality of life in burn patients. The study was conducted in the intensive care units and burn clinic of Elazığ Fırat University Hospital between 17 February 2022 and 30 April 2022. Data were collected from 94 burn patients using the Personal Information Form, Social Appearance Anxiety Scale, Body‐Cathexis Scale and Quality of Life Scale‐Short Form. Most participants were 30 years old and under, male, married, had no children and had an education level of high school or below. Most had social security and an income equal to their expenses. They were not uncomfortable with coming to the hospital, and 1–3 months had passed since the burn incident. They did not spend time outside, and most had no part of their bodies that they did not like, while 26.1% did not like their feet. A negative relationship was detected between the Social Appearance Anxiety Scale and Body‐Cathexis Scale, and a positive relationship between the total and sub‐dimensions of the Quality of Life Scale (p > 0.05). There was a negative relationship between the Body‐Cathexis Scale and the Quality of Life Scale total and sub‐dimensions (p < 0.05), and a positive relationship between the total and sub‐dimensions of the Quality of Life Scale (p < 0.05).

Examining the perceived stress and body image in burn patients: A cross‐sectional study

This study aimed to examine the perceived stress and body image in burn patients and the relationship between these two variables. This is a descriptive and cross‐sectional study. The study included total of 144 patients who had burn injuries, received treatment in a research and training hospital and were scheduled to be discharged. The data were collected prospectively by the researchers, using descriptive methods, Kruskal Wallis test, paired samples t test, and Pearson's correlation analysis. Of the patients, 59% were between the ages of 18 and 35 years, 68.1% were male, 65.3% had second‐degree burns, 77.1% had burn surfaces ranging between 10% and 20% of their body, and 54.9% had autograft surgery. The burn patients aged 51 years and over had higher perceived stress than younger patients, and the difference between them was statistically significant (P < 0.05). As the percentage of burn surface increased, the perceived stress increased, and the perceived body image weakened (P < 0.05). The burn patients with autograft surgery had lower perceived stress and higher perceived body image than those without autograft surgery, and the difference between them was statistically significant (P < 0.01). This study found an inverse relationship between perceived stress and body image in burn patients, which was affected by the percentage of burn surface and autograft surgery. Relevant interventions are suggested to increase perceived body image in burn patients and reduce their perceived stress.
