PSO based universal phase shift modulation scheme for DAB converter to eliminate backflow power in energy storage applications

Abstract: SummaryIn battery energy storage system (BESS) applications, the life of the battery depends on the quality of the charging/discharging current. However, the dual active bridge (DAB) converter, which interfaces BESS with the DC link, suffers from a backflow current in all modulation schemes, degrading the battery's performance. Hence, this paper proposes a particle swarm optimization (PSO) based universal phase shift (UPS) modulation scheme to improve the battery's life. In the proposed modulation scheme, the … Show more

“…Based on the research of previous works, a three control degrees modulation TPS 8 is proposed. Since there are three control degrees in TPS, more optimization targets are introduced such as zero voltage switching (ZVS) for all switches, 9–11 eliminating the non‐active power 12–14 and DC bias 15,16 . That is the reason why the TPS modulation is a more general modulation for DAB converter 17 …”
