“…Eder et al also developed a PSMA-targeted NIRF dye, Glu-urea-Lys-2-Nal-Chx-Lys (IRDye800CW)-DOTA (PSMA-927), based on the theranostic agent PSMA-617 99 (Table 5 ). Moreover, PSMA-Cy7.5-2 outperformed PSMA-IRDye800CW in vitro and in vivo 100 .…”

“…BODIPY or Cy7.5-based probes targeting PSMA have also been reported (Figure 4(a), left). 93,94 Histone deacetylases (HDACs) are epigenetic enzymes that are responsible for the deacetylation of lysine residues in histones and are overexpressed in cancers such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). 95,96 In 2020, Tang et al focused on fluorescence probes targeting HDAC6.…”

“…This probe, 800CW-SCE, labeled PSMA-positive LNCaP cultured cells, but did not label PSMA-negative PC3 cells (Figure (b)), and could visualize LNCaP tumors in mice (Figure (c)). BODIPY or Cy7.5-based probes targeting PSMA have also been reported (Figure (a), left). , …”

“…The development of functional near-infrared (NIR)-emitting fluorescent probes for image-guided surgery as well as multimodal imaging and personalized medicine is of great interest for biomedical applications and life sciences research. Some of the essential design requirements for these imaging probes for in vivo applications have recently been reviewed. In the NIR region of the electromagnetic spectrum, scattering coefficients, absorption, and autofluorescence of biological tissues reach local minima, resulting in overall low attenuation and allowing for larger penetration depths of the emitted light. Most prominent commercially accessible dyes for imaging in this region are those based on pentamethine and heptamethine cyanine frameworks, as well as the closely related tricarbocyanine dyes. ,, The latter offer an additional handle for functionalization if the meso -position features a halide. , Such dyes are highly reactive, with substitution reactions in the meso -position believed to proceed via an S RN 1-type mechanism . In this context, derivatization of this Cy7 site can drastically alter the photophysical properties, due to substantial changes of the charge distribution along the polymethine backbone .…”
