Pseudomonas azotoformans HC5 Effective in Antagonistic of Mushrooms Brown Blotch Disease Caused by Pseudomonas tolaasii

Abstract: A gram-negative bacterium was isolated from spent substrate of Agaricus bisporus and showed marked antagonistic activity against Pseudomonas tolaasii. The bacterium was identified as Pseudomonas azotoformans by based on the cultural, biochemical and physiological characteristics, and 16S rRNA gene sequence. The isolated bacterium was saprophytic but not parasitic nor pathogenic to cultivation mushroom. The isolated bacterium for P. tolaasii cell was not sufficient for inhibition in vitro. Control efficacy of P… Show more

“…In industrial cultivation, other bacteria such as P. azotoformans, P. fluorescens , P. putida and Bacillus spp. are used as antagonists that suppress the aforementioned mushroom pathogenic bacteria [ 51 , 52 , 53 ]. This could explain why these bacteria were seen in our samples as well.…”

“…Biological control of the brown blotch disease using antagonistic bacteria reduced the loss of mushroom production ( Lee et al, 2014 ). Antibiotics are powerful for controlling diseases ( Geels, 1995 ), but their field application for edible mushrooms is limited.…”
