“…In addition, these collections have allowed us to describe new species and significantly extend the range of many species (Cano et al, 2011a). Among the bryophyte specimens collected on trips to Peru (2005 and2009) and Argentina (2008), we encountered a species of uncertain affinity. The appearance of this species was quite similar to some species of Tortula Hedw.…”

“…Pseudocrossidium R.S.Williams includes 17 species in the world (Zander, 1993;Jiménez et al, 2009;Cano, 2011). It is distributed mostly in South America, and only four species, P. adustum Zander (1993) important characters for this genus are the usual small sizes, absence of ventral stereid band and the broadly crescent-shaped dorsal stereid band, with a clearly differentiated dorsal epidermis of cells often with semicircular lumens through differential thickening of the walls.…”

“…In our studies of the South American genera of Pottiaceae (Cano, 2008;Cano & Gallego, 2008;Cano et al, 2010aCano et al, , 2010bGallego & Cano, 2009;Jiménez et al, 2009), we have devoted recent years to the taxonomic revision of the genus Pseudocrossidium. This study has provided the opportunity to examine the type material of most of the taxa included in this genus.…”
