Pseudoangiomatous hyperplasia of male breast

Abstract: Ninety-three male breast specimens have been examined for the presence of pseudoangiomatous hyperplasia of the mammary stroma which has hitherto been described almost exclusively in females. Forty-four cases (47.4%) showed some degree of hyperplasia, varying from small microscopic foci to extensive change involving 90% of the mammary tissue. “…Whenever lymph needs to be drained, especially in inflammatory situations, pre-lymphatics open on demand [3]. Although Vuitch et al [6] believed that these spaces were artefact, Badve and Sloane [7] demonstrated that these same spaces are real, as they are visible in frozen sections as well as at ultrastructural level [4]. In addition, neoplastic cells were found to spread through them, highlighting the labyrinth structure of these same spaces [8].…”

“…[2][3][4][5] However, palpable masses and radiologically detected lesions consisting predominantly of pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia cells are rare; the largest series reported in the medical literature includes 40 cases. 6 The imaging findings of pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia tumors have been reported only in small case series.…”
