Pseudo surface acoustic waves inα-quartz

Abstract

The paper analytically and numerically investigates the conditions of existing of a isolated surface wave, which is known as a pseudo surface wave (PSA W), on a free surface of a quartz. It is shown that a large number of PSA W solutions exist on the nonsymmetrical crystal planes of the crystal.Piezoelectricity of a-quartz converts the elastic pseudo surface waves to three partial piezoelectric PSA W on electrically shorted surface, while on electrically unshorted or a free surface they are leaky waves with expremelly small attenuation coefficients.Index Terms-a-quartz, surface acoustic wave, leaky acoustic wave, pseudo surface acoustic wave, effective permittivity function.
