“…Considering the results of the abovementioned studies as well as our results, LNG-IUS should not be considered to have a genotoxic effect. However, Hughes et al reported cytological findings in the cervical smear of a 54-year-old Caucasian woman that was evaluated two years afterLNG-IUS placement (Hughes et al 2005). The authorsstated that the nuclear chromatin was finely granular with occasional nuclear irregularity, and the nuclei contained one or more prominent nucleoli.…”

“…3,4 Pseudodecidualisation of endometrial stroma has been reported in a ThinPrep sample. 5 The material could therefore represent cytolytic endometrium, which could be misinterpreted as tumour diathesis, particularly if there are also IUCD cells or 'Dings' present in the sample. These are single endometrial cells with vacuolated cytoplasm, a high nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio, and large hyperchromatic nuclei with smudged chromatin, which may mimic severe squamous dysplasia, especially if an adequate clinical history is lacking.…”
