Prussian Blue/Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube Hybrids: Synthesis, Assembly and Electrochemical Behavior

Abstract: Prussian blue/carbon nanotube (PB/CNT) hybrids with excellent dispersibility in aqueous solutions were synthesized by adding CNTs to an acidic solution of Fe 3þ , [Fe(CN) 6 ] 3À and KCl. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy were employed to confirm the formation of PB/CNT hybrids. The PB nanoparticles formed on the CNT surfaces exhibit a narrow size distribution and an average size of 40 nm. The present results demonstrate that the selective r… Show more

“…70,71 In fact, a splitting of the E g mode of anhydrous K 4 [Fe(CN) 6 ] occurs, compared to the hydrated complex, that correlates with the C≡N band profile observed in Figure 5. 29,68 To evaluate PB formation over the CNT film, the laser was focused directly onto the L/L interface where the above-mentioned signals are present. The position of the L/L interface can move under polarization as this alters the interfacial tension, and hence the curvature, of the meniscus.…”

“…In fact, CNT/HCM composites have been applied in sensors, membranes, electrochromic devices, batteries and catalysts, among others. [26][27][28][29][30] HCMs, however, usually present low chemical and electrochemical stability, which can be improved by CNTs in CNT/HCM composites. 31 The better the interaction between the materials, the higher their stability.…”

“…Prussian blue deposited multi-walled carbon nanotubes hybrids (PB/MWNTs) were synthesized according to the literature (Zhai et al, 2009). 0.25% CS solution was prepared by dissolving 0.25 g CS in 100 mL 1.0% acetic acid with sonication for 1 h. Before electrode modification, GCE was successively polished with 0.3 and 0.05 m alumina slurry, followed by rinsing thoroughly with deionized water.…”

“…Prussian blue deposited carbon nanotubes hybrids, combining the efficient facilitation effect of CNTs on electron transfer (Tang et al, 2004;Guan et al, 2005;Huang et al, 2006;Tsai and Tsai, 2009) with the effective low-potential electron transfer mediation effect of Prussian blue toward the reduction of H 2 O 2 (Ahmadalinezhad et al, 2009;Chiu et al, 2009;Wang et al, 2009;Li et al, 2010), are attracting particular interest in the area of electrochemistry (Zhai et al, 2009;Zhang et al, 2009). To the best of our knowledge, no attempt has been made to fabricate biosensors with 0956-5663/$ -see front matter © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.…”

“…In order to solve these problems, much endeavor has been devoted to searching for novel supports that can improve the sensor's stability and activity. A general solution to the problem is the utilization of CNTs/PB composites due to the enhanced stability of the composite material [19][20][21]. Nevertheless, when constructing CNTs/PB composites based electrochemical sensors, multistep processes are usually required to prepare in advance, such as purifying CNTs or presynthesizing PB nanoparticles [22].…”
