Prussian Blue‐Derived Iron Phosphide Nanoparticles in a Porous Graphene Aerogel as Efficient Electrocatalyst for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Abstract: Tailoring of new hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalyst with earth abundant elements is important for large scale water splitting and hydrogen production. In this work, we present a simple synthetic method for incorporating iron phosphide (FeP) particles into three-dimensional (3D) porous graphene aerogel (GA) structure. The FeP formed in porous 3D GA (FeP/GA) is derived from electroactive Fe hexacyanoferrate (FeHCF). The advantage of incorporating FeP, in the porous 3D graphene network enables high… Show more

“…Synthesis of Yolk–Shell FeP@CNBs: Yolk–shell FeP@CNBs were synthesized in a two‐zone furnace. Typically, 1 g NaH 2 PO 2 was loaded into an alumina boat which was put at the center of the upstream zone, while another alumina boat containing 50 mg yolk–shell Fe 2 O 3 @C was put in the center of the downstream zone.…”

“…Furthermore, the authors also demonstrated the excellent HER activities of Ni 2 P@C‐NPs/GA in 0.5 m H 2 SO 4 and 1.0 m KOH, respectively. Similarly, Venugopal et al [ 238 ] incorporated FeP particles into a 3D porous graphene aerogel. Thanks to the high accessibility of the framework after FeP loading, the as‐synthesized FeP/GA also exhibited excellent HER activity and stability in both acidic and alkaline solutions.…”

“…Prussian blue analogues (PBAs), composed of metal ions and organic ligands, have been extensively applied as ideal templates for the conversion of diversified porous or hollow metal phosphides, metal sulfides, and other metal species materials. Due to the controllable shape of PBA, the ordered pore sizes and the advantages of the synthesis method are simple. Even better, during phosphidation or sulfurization processes, the CN – of PBAs can easily generate nitrogen-doped carbon, in which it has been proven that the introduction of nitrogen atoms in carbon can promote the surface-dominated charge storage and improve electronic conductivity of electrodes. Furthermore, the PBAs have two or more metal ions, which makes them an excellent precursor to synthesis of multimetallic phosphides via a simple one-step phosphating process .…”
