Abstract-Power saving is an important issue when integrating the wireless LAN technology into mobile devices. Besides Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee, the IEEE 802.11e introduces an architecture called Scheduled Automatic Power-Save Delivery (S-APSD) aiming at delivering buffered frames to power save stations. In S-APSD, the Access Point (AP) schedules the Service Period (SP) of stations. To increase power efficiency, SPs should be scheduled to minimize the chance of overlapping. In a recent paper, an algorithm named Overlapping Aware S-APSD (OAS-APSD) was proposed to find the wake-up time schedule for a new Traffic Stream (TS) to minimize the chance of SP overlapping. The combination of OAS-APSD and HCF Controlled Channel Access (HCCA) was proved to outperform 802.11 Power Save Mode (PSM) with Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) in power saving efficiency and QoS support. However, the OAS-APSD algorithm requires high online computational complexity which could make it infeasible for real systems. Without harming the optimality, this paper presents an efficient algorithm with much less complexity by exploiting the periodicity of service schedule. Because of largely reduced online computational complexity, the proposed algorithm is much more feasible than OAS-APSD.

Abstract-Cooperative trajectory mapping is an emerging technique that allows users to create such a map by using data that is collected from each other's mobile phones. This technique has been proposed for many applications, such as people localization, public transportation tracking, and traffic monitoring. Unlike the traditional GPS, cooperative trajectory mapping only requires information about the departure distance and moving direction from the previously reported position. This avoids problems like the high energy consumption of GPS and weak GPS signals in indoor conditions. However, the new technique also brings about other problems, such as measurement errors in cooperative trajectory mapping, which is when a measurement error causes the spatial relations among users to be wrong. We propose an encounter-based error correction algorithm to efficiently reduce measurement errors. Extensive simulation experiments are performed to validate our solutions.Index Terms-Cooperative trajectory mapping, encounter, measurement error, mobile phones, relative error.

a b s t r a c tThis paper presents an analysis of the power consumption of video data transmission with constant bit rate over 3G mobile wireless networks. The work includes the description of the radio resource control transition state machine in 3G networks, followed by a detailed power consumption analysis and measurements of the radio link power consumption. Based on this description and analysis, we propose our power consumption model. The power model was evaluated on a smartphone Nokia N900, which follows 3GPP Release 5 and 6 supporting HSDPA/HSUPA data bearers. We also propose a method for parameter selection for the 3GPP transition state machine that allows to decrease power consumption on a mobile device taking signaling traffic, buffer size and latency restrictions into account. Furthermore, we discuss the gain in power consumption vs. PSNR for transmitted video and show the possibility of performing power consumption management based on the requirements for the video quality.
