Protozoan parasites of domestic animals and of man

Abstract: A disease which is common to man and lower animals is known as a zoo)iosis. Zoonoses were redefined in 1958 by the Joint WHO FAO Expert Committee on Zoonoses as "those diseases and infections which are naturally transmitted between vertebrate animals and man" (World Health Organization, 1959). Less than 20 years ago it was said that there were 50 zoonoses, but in the above report the World Health Organization listed more in connection with vector-borne diseases, altho it need not be restricted to them. epide… Show more

“…25), subjected to centrifugal flotation onto a coverslip and examined under oil at 1000r magnification to identify Eimeria species and check for the presence or absence of Giardia duodenalis cysts. Up to 100 Eimeria oocysts on each coverslip were identified to species level based on morphological traits (Levine, 1973 ;M.A.F.F., 1986 ;Soulsby, 1986). An estimate of intensity of each Eimeria species was achieved by relating their proportions to the McMaster counts.…”

“…The protozoan is observed in the urogenital cavity of cows and it is able to migrate upward through the cervix and invade the uterus [17]. In bulls, the most common site of infection is the preputial cavity, although the epididymis, and seminal vesicles may sometimes be involved [2,17,21]. Among infected calves, the occurrence of endometritis, accompanied by uterine, cervical, and vaginal catarrh, is frequent.…”
